Selection of toolholder, blades and adapters
Selection of Toolholders,
Blades and Adapters
The application determines the type of toolholder, blade or adapter to be selected.
Integral Toolholders
Toolholders are divided into two main types, those with full support under the insert and those with insert overhang.
GHD. and GHG. CUT-GRIP Holders with Full Support
For deep grooving and turning applications, this type of holder with full support under the insert is generally recommended.
Tool selection is based on maximum cutting depth which relates to the overhang of support T.
GHD. provides maximum overhang of 10 mm. GHG. provides maximum overhang of 20, 25, and 30 mm.
The maximum depth is achieved using single-ended inserts. A maximum depth of 13 mm can be achieved with doubleended inserts.
TGD. TOP-GRIP Holders with Full Support Under the Arc- Shaped Insert TGD.
holders can be used for machining depths ranging from T=7 mm to T=22 mm, depending upon the width of the insert. The same TOP-GRIP double-ended utility inserts can be used for external and internal applications, thereby reducing required stock.
GHM CUT-GRIP Holders with Insert Overhang
Shallow grooving and face grooving operations - up to 4.8 mm depth - may use the GHM. holder which provides for insert overhang. These holders do not limit the minimum insert width.
