IS25 and IS35
New Additional SiAlON Ceramic Inserts for Machining High-Temperature Alloys
Highlights
ISCAR is adding additional IS25 and IS35 SiAlON ceramic inserts with T-Land and honing for roughing and interrupted cut conditions on high temperature alloys.
In 2017, ISCAR introduced new SiAlON ceramic grades for machining high-temperature alloys.
Following a positive market response, ISCAR is expanding this line with additional “TE” edge
preparation inserts, produced with T-Land and honing for tough applications.
Both the IS25 and IS35 ceramic grades were developed for very high cutting speeds and
interrupted cut applications on nickel based heat resistant alloys such as Inconel, Waspaloy,
Rene, etc.
The new grades are characterized by their high hardness and wear resistance that increase
productivity on super alloy materials such as Inconel 718 and Waspaloy. They provide an
advantageous performance when compared with conventional carbide grades.
Main Advantages
Excellent wear resistance and fracture toughness
Excellent thermal shock resistance
Excellent for roughing operations
Can be used with similar machining conditions such as whisker-reinforced grades
Price advantage over whisker reinforced grades

When replacing ceramic whisker grades with ISCAR’s new grades, we recommend increasing the feed
If tool life is too short, cutting speed should be reduced
